Hanoi has always been a place that preserves the traditional values and rich culture of Vietnam. Yet, perhaps never before has Hanoi been so vibrant with the red and yellow stars of the national flag as it is this year as a fresh university graduate who has been in Hanoi for less than four years, this year’s National Day celebration be one of the most unforgettable experiences for me. Walking along the familiar streets of the capital, I felt as if I were stepping into a scene that only exists in books. The national flags fluttering from every house and every street created a breathtaking panorama of pride and patriotism.

When I first arrived in Hanoi, like many students from the provinces, I sometimes felt lost amidst the bustling and fast-paced rhythm of this city, both ancient and modern. The broad roads, the constant flow of people, and the blaring car horns left me overwhelmed. But over time, Hanoi gradually became an indispensable part of my life. Morning commutes along Phan Dinh Phung Street under the early sunlight or late afternoons sipping iced tea and chatting with friends at roadside stalls made the city feel unexpectedly close to my heart.

During festivals, especially National Day, I began to sense the joy of the people here. Red and yellow flags were displayed everywhere, from narrow alleys to towering buildings, as a poignant reminder of history and the milestones of our nation.

This year, perhaps because I’ve spent more time in Hanoi or because of a newfound maturity as a fresh graduate leaving the university halls, the city has appeared to me in an even more vivid light. Walking along streets I’ve traversed many times before, I found myself captivated by the national flags fluttering along both sides of the road. Never before have I seen the red of the national flag appear so vivid.

What amazed me even more was the meticulous effort people put into decorating their homes. Beyond simply displaying flags, many families painted their doors or vehicles in the colors of the Vietnamese flag, making it easy to spot these vibrant touches. Hanoi seemed to don a new outfit, both resplendent and filled with the spirit of unity and patriotism of its residents. I could sense the pride in everyone’s eyes, from children playing joyfully to elderly folks sipping tea on their porches.

Over nearly four years in Hanoi, I’ve witnessed the city’s transformation day by day. From newly widened roads and towering buildings to modern public amenities improving the lives of its citizens, Hanoi has grown with grace. During these festive days, however, the city transcends its modern, bustling facade to reveal a timeless beauty steeped in history and culture. Every street I walk seems to recount a story, a journey of struggle and sacrifice that allows us to proudly admire the red and yellow stars flying high in the capital’s sky today.

I dream of a Hanoi that becomes increasingly civilized, with warm-hearted people and a connected community that values and preserves traditional values. I hope that every National Day, Hanoi will not only shine brightly with the colors of the flag but also with the patriotism and national pride in every citizen’s heart. Strolling through the streets of Hanoi, overwhelmed by the sight of the national flag, these are moments I will cherish forever.

To me, Hanoi is not just a place for study and work, but a place where I’ve had the chance to discover and fall in love with the historical and cultural treasures of my country. As a newly graduated student, I’ve had incredible experiences here over nearly four years. And I believe that no matter where I go, the images of Hanoi during this year’s September 2nd celebration will remain etched in my mind and heart.

Hanoi continues to change every day, and so do I. Yet amidst these changes, one thing will always stay constant – my love and pride for this city. Hanoi will forever be the pride of the nation, the heart of Vietnam, a place that always radiates vibrance and love.
